Section 25400 of the Penal Code states that it is a crime to carry a concealed weapon on a person. But, this statute doesn’t apply if the individual in question possesses a CCW, or a concealed carry permit that allows them to carry a concealed weapon.
What is a concealed carry permit?
A CCW, or a concealed carry permit, is the only way an individual can become legally allowed to be in possession of a concealed weapon. The only persons able to issue a concealed carry permit are the head of a municipal police department or a county sheriff.
If an individual is looking to obtain a concealed carry permit, they have to prove the following information:
- They are of excellent moral character.
- They have a solid cause on behalf of the individual or a family member being in immediate danger.
- They meet special requirements concerning residency.
- They have attended a necessary course regarding firearms training.
