North County Courthouse (Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, Vista, etc.)
Everyone who lives in North County enjoys his or her space more than anyone else in San Diego. The courthouse in North County is centrally located right off the Highway 78 freeway off Melrose Drive. Please make sure to not to drive too far down Melrose or you might miss it. The Courthouse is equipped to handle all types of criminal cases. Every case either misdemeanor or felony will start out in Department 14. This is the beginning stage of every criminal proceeding. It is important to hire an attorney that understands the importance of keeping all misdemeanor cases in this specific department. This is different than handling felony cases in North County which will end up in Department 6 for pre-trial negotiations. Typically, you will want to keep only the misdemeanor cases in Department 14 for further proceedings to try and see if you can work out a dismissal or a beneficial deal instead of sending the case for further negotiations in Department 1. Every experienced attorney in North County knows to try and avoid Department 1 by any means necessary even if this means setting the case for trial. All cases both misdemeanors and felonies will be set for trial in Department 5. This department is located all the way down the hallway if you walk to the most right side corner of the courthouse.
