She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Houston. Ms. Monroy pursued her law degree at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, where she discovered her passion for litigation when she competed at the national level on the Mock Trial Team. While in law school, Ms. Monroy also studied law abroad, International Sales Law in Greece, Constitutional Law in Italy and White Collar Criminal Defense in Switzerland. After receiving her Juris Doctorate, Ms. Monroy was determined to become the best advocate for her clients. Ms. Monroy moved to San Diego to pursue a Masters in Law Degree in Trial Advocacy in the area of Federal Criminal Defense from California Western School of Law. In order to become an effective criminal defense attorney in San Diego, Ms. Monroy knew that she would have to master the crossover between criminal and immigration law. This specialty area of the law is complex and requires specialized legal training to address the technical aspects involved. Today, the specialized training that she received and her experience studying law abroad have provide Ms. Monroy with a vast understanding of cultural nuances in other countries, allowing her to effectively communicate with our clients who come from all ethnicities and nationalities seeking the best criminal defense services in southern California.
At Monder Law Group, we strongly believe that mitigation is the defense’s first opportunity to present our clients in the most positive light and separate them from the other defendants being investigated or prosecuted for the same offenses. The goal of a mitigation packet is to provide law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies with the extenuating factors in the client’s case that merit a reconsideration of the criminal investigation, reduction of the recommended charges, or setting aside the criminal complaint altogether. Ms. Monroy has been trained in the art of mitigation and serves as the mitigation specialist for Monder Law Group. In an effort to identify the extenuating factors that are available to mitigate a client’s case, Ms. Monroy must interview the clients and their families. As part of the interview process, clients are asked personal questions about family, social and criminal history, education background, vocational training, employment, physical and mental health, military service and community service. Ms. Monroy’s innate ability to earn the client’s trust and make them feel at ease throughout the interview process allows her to extract valuable mitigating factors. Ms. Monroy will then assemble a mitigation packet consisting of the information derived from the client’s interview and evidentiary documentation provided by the client. This documentation consists of professional resume, certificates of completion for community service, evidence of academic or employment goals, character letters from individuals who can attest to the client’s good reputation in the community, documentation of promotions, awards, specialized training, and military service records. Ms. Monroy’s efficiency putting together a comprehensive mitigation packet and using it to negotiate with law enforcement agencies and/or the prosecutorial agencies has proved to be a very successful defense strategy for our clients. Our mitigation results speak for themselves, as no file letters are constantly issued during our clients’ arraignments and felony charges are reduced to misdemeanors before our clients’ preliminary hearings. At Monder Law Group, we know that there is more to you than the charges that you are facing and we are here to offer you the opportunity to present to law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies a complete view of who you are as individual.
